Talented U/X Designer / Atomic Design Systems Pro - Figma Expert Required
UpworkAbout Us
We're building a unified customer communication platform that brings together chat, SMS, voice AI, analytics, and reputation management into one product. Our customers are businesses that want to stop juggling six different tools and start having real conversations with their customers.
We're in active development with a small, focused team—and we're looking for a designer who can strengthen the foundation everything else gets built on.
The Role
We need a design systems specialist to build and organize the atomic components, molecules, and organisms in our Figma files.
This isn't a "make it pretty" role—it's a "make it scalable" role.
Your initial project: Audit our existing Figma components and rebuild them using proper atomic design methodology. Establish naming conventions, variant structures, and documentation so our lead designer can move faster and our developers can build with confidence.
Ongoing work: Maintain and extend the design system as we ship new features across chat widgets, agent dashboards, SMS inboxes, voice call flows, analytics dashboards, and survey builders.
What You'll Do
- Build and organize atomic components (buttons, inputs, icons, typography)
- Create molecules (form fields, cards, list items) and organisms (navigation, modals, data tables)
- Establish Figma best practices: auto-layout, variants, component properties, slots
- Document components with usage guidelines and do's/don'ts
- Collaborate with our lead designer to ensure new designs use system components
- Work with developers to ensure design-to-code consistency
What We're Looking For
Required
- 3+ years of UX/UI design experience
- Expert-level Figma skills (auto-layout, variants, component properties, prototyping)
- Deep understanding of atomic design principles (atoms → molecules → organisms → templates → pages)
- Portfolio showing design system work—not just final screens, but the component architecture behind them
- Clear communication in English (written and async)
Nice to Have
- Experience with B2B SaaS or multi-module products
- Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or utility-first CSS (helps with design-dev handoff)
- Experience building component documentation (Storybook, Zeroheight, or similar)
- You've scaled a design system across 5+ distinct feature areas
How We Work
- Small team, direct communication, minimal meetings
Async-first—we write things down and expect thoughtful responses over quick ones.
- Figma is our source of truth for design
- We use a structured workflow: specs → design → review → prototype → approval → dev
- Quality matters more than speed, but we ship regularly
To Apply
Send us
1. A brief intro – Who you are, why this role interests you
2. Your portfolio – Specifically, show us design system work. We want to see component libraries, variant structures, documentation—not just polished marketing pages.
3. A Figma file link (optional but encouraged) – Show us how you organize components. Even a small personal project that demonstrates your atomic design approach works.
If you care about the craft of design systems and want to see your work ship in real products, let's talk.
